Some promising herbal medicines against the SARS-CoV-2/ACE-2 Junction and SARS -CoV -2-Spike Protein

According to what scientists have discovered in the COVID-19 epidemic, the spike protein affects vaccinated as well as well as unvaccinated individuals.

The SARS-CoV-2 spike protein is known to attach itself to the human receptor ACE2 through the receptor binding domain (RBD).

We have put together an herbal formula which helps protect/lessen the effects of the above mentioned to the body.

INGREDIENTS:

Cats Claw  I  Astragalus  I  Artemesia Annua  I  Turmeric  I Shizandra Berry  I  Scullcap  I  Liquorice

Artemisia annua, Gymnema, Cassia and other herbal medicines have shown promising inhibitory effect against coronavirus. Phytochemicals have been used as antiviral agents against several viruses for thousands of years since they inhibit several viruses via different mechanisms of direct inhibition either at the viral entry point or the replication stages and via immunomodulation potentials. Recent evidence also suggests that some plants and its components have shown promising antiviral properties against SARS-CoV-2. A special focus has been given on medicinal plants and their extracts as well as herbs which have shown promising results to combat SARS-CoV-2 infection and can be useful in treating patients with COVID-19 as alternatives for treatment under phytotherapy approaches during this devastating pandemic situation. Cats ClawUncaria tomentosa (cat’s claw): has shown to be a promising herbal medicine against SARS-CoV-2/ACE-2 junction and SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. Molecular modeling was carried out to evaluate the potential antiviral properties of the components of the medicinal herb Uncaria tomentosa (cat’s claw) focusing on the binding interface of the RBD-ACE-2 and the viral spike protein. The structural bioinformatics approaches led to the identification of several bioactive compounds of U. tomentosa with potential therapeutic effect by dual strong interaction with interface of the RBD-ACE-2 and the ACE-2 binding site on SARS-CoV-2 RBD viral spike. Findings suggest the potential effectiveness of cat’s claw as complementary and/or alternative medicine for COVID-19 treatmentJ (Biomol Struct Dyn 2020 Oct 29)

Several studies on the Potential Role of Gut Microbiota (GM) in Traditional Chinese Medicine against COVID-19 suggest that GM dysbiosis did occur in COVID-19 patients, and the intervention of GM could ameliorate the clinical condition of COVID-19 patients. In addition, TCM’s have been proven to be safe and effective for the treatment of COVID-19 in a Chinese clinic. Among them, Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Liquorice), Scutellaria baicalensi (Scullcap), and Astragalus membranaceus (Astragalus) are common herbs and have a certain regulation on GM, immunity, and angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2)

Shisandra Berry, (Shisandra chinensis)

Antioxidant Effects of Schisandra chinensis Fruits and Their Active Constituents

Numerous clinical trials have demonstrated the efficiency of Schizandra in asthenia, neuralgic and psychiatric (neurosis, psychogenic depression, depressive states, schizophrenia and alcoholism) disorders, in impaired visual function, hypotension and cardiotonic disorders, in epidemic waves of influenza, in chronic sinusitis, otitis, neuritis and otosclerosis, in pneumonia, (J Ethnopharmacol, 2008 Jul 23;118(2)

Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus) – In pharmacological studies, crude extracts of Astragalus, as well as isolated constituents showed anti-inflammatory, immunostimulant, antioxidative, anti-cancer, antidiabetic, cardioprotective, hepatoprotective, and antiviral activities. Also shows inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokine storm in viral infections. (Molecules, 2014 Nov 17;19(11), (Am J Chin Med, 2017;45(6)

In a study by Kar et al, 2020, phytocompounds such as mangiferin (which can be found in mangoes and honey bush tea) and beta -carotene (carrots, sweet potato, turmeric etc) and eugenol (clove, garlic, turmeric, thyme, cinnamon) were found to exhibit inhibitory effect against the spike protein.

We use these herbs on a regular basis in herbal blends for clients currently due to antioxidant activity, DNA protection ability, immune modulating etc.

Certain studies have been conducted more specific to the pandemic to see which herbal medications show positive effects in reducing the damage caused in this regard.

ALSO, VERY IMPORTANT TO USE BRIGHTLY COULOURED FRUITS, VEGETABLES, HERBS AND SPICES AS PART OF DAILY ROUTINE AS THESE ARE THE HIGH ANTI-OXIDANT FOODS AND HIGH IN PHYTO-CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS
